Message from the coordinator

Aug 9

Hello,
240 swimmers swam in the 1 mile and 2 mile swims at Rocky Point Beach and Park. So far (unofficial) we have raised over $25,000!

We congratulate all swimmers on their open water swim. I know that swimming in open water is not an easy task and I congratulate everyone on a job well done.

I also want to apologize for the timing chip and body numbering issue we had for the 2 mile swim participants. Everyone was understanding and I appreciate that. We are working on some changes for next year so that things will run much smoother at check in.

I am in need of an Assistant who is as passionate and dedicated as I am to seeing this event grow. With the increasing popularity of the event I am no longer able to keep up with the duties of coordinating the event on my own. I have a full time job as well as being a parent and it is very difficult to add anymore commitments to my life. So…If you would like to join me as an assistant coordinator please contact me.

Finally I wanted to thank everyone who donated, swam and helped out with this years event. We look forward to an even bigger and better event in 2011!

“Just keep swimming and we will see you on the beach.”

WATER INFO

Jul 8

Rocky Point is located in the northern portion of the Chesapeake Bay. The water here is mainly fresh water and in August the watertemp is in the upper 70’s to low 80’s. Wetsuits are allowed. Sea Nettles are not likely in this area. Due to the minimal amount of rain in the region we could experience patches of Sea Grass in the shallow portions of the swim. We will do our best to avoid these areas. Maryland is well known for its HOT and HUMID weather with pop-up Thunderstorms.
We will not have a rain date for the swim. In cases of Thunderstorms we may push back the start of the event. There is no refund in case of poor weather. The event is under the jurisdiction of the United States Coast Guard. If they feel that conditions are unfavorable for swimming we must abide by their wishes. Please stay tuned for more info
